Green Chef review: the meal box built around special diets
Our rating: 4/5 — the best pick if you're eating to a specific plan like keto, vegan or high-protein.
This week's menu · 2026-W35
109 recipes to choose from, 11 new this week. New additions lean High Protein, Vegan, Lower Carb. Over the last 4 weeks, Green Chef adds around 127 new recipes a month.
What we like
- Diet-first menu. Where most boxes bolt a few "healthy" recipes onto a general menu, Green Chef builds the whole week around eating plans — keto, vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian and calorie-conscious options are front and centre.
- High-protein choice. A large share of recipes are explicitly high-protein or "50g+ protein", which makes hitting a target genuinely easy.
- Low-waste packaging. Pre-portioned ingredients and recyclable, plastic-light packaging — among the tidier boxes we've unpacked.
What could be better
- Price. The diet focus comes at a premium — Green Chef sits above the big all-rounders per portion once intro offers end.
- Gluten-free. Green Chef doesn't label recipes gluten-free on its weekly menu the way some rivals do, so we don't list any as GF here — if you're coeliac, always confirm allergen info on their own site before ordering.

What other reviewers say
Our round-up of what independent UK reviewers and customers report — with links so you can check the source.
Trustpilot ≈ 3/5 from ~4,952 reviews (indicative — see the live score)
Green Chef is the only mainstream UK meal-kit service with full organic ingredient certification and nutritionist-designed menus spanning keto, paleo, and plant-based plans. However, its 3.0/5 Trustpilot rating — the lowest in this review set — and MoneySavingExpert's 2026 verdict of 'disappointing flavour-wise' suggest the organic credentials do not consistently translate to superior taste.
Reviewers praise
- Certified organic ingredients throughout — the only mainstream UK kit to carry full organic certification, with nutritionist-designed menus.
- Broadest diet-plan coverage among UK kits — dedicated keto, paleo, plant-based, gluten-free, and calorie-conscious menus.
- Carbon offset commitment — Green Chef states it offsets 100% of packaging waste and carbon emissions.
Common gripes
- Joint-lowest Trustpilot score of all nine brands reviewed (3.0/5 from ~4,952 reviews); customer complaints include missing ingredients, poor produce quality, and inconsistent delivery.
- Premium pricing with limited differentiation — MoneySavingExpert testing in 2026 found Green Chef 'disappointing flavour-wise' at mid-to-premium price points.
- HelloFresh subsidiary — acquired in 2018, which means corporate ownership may conflict with the artisan/organic brand positioning for some consumers.
