Grubby review: the UK's plant-based recipe box
Our rating: 4/5 — the best meal kit if you want to eat entirely plant-based without compromising on flavour.
This week's menu · 2026-W35
78 recipes to choose from, 24 new this week. New additions lean Vegan, Popular. Over the last 4 weeks, Grubby adds around 81 new recipes a month.
What we like
- 100% plant-based. Every recipe on the menu is vegan — there's nothing to swap out, so it's the easiest box for anyone eating plant-based full-time or trying to cut back on meat.
- Genuinely inventive cooking. Dishes like rose harissa butter bean stew and dal makhani with flatbreads show real veg-forward ambition — a long way from token meat-free options bolted onto a general menu.
- Filling, well-balanced portions. The recipes we looked at land around 600–750 kcal with strong fibre and plant-protein numbers, so they eat as a proper dinner rather than a light plate.
- Low-waste packaging. Pre-portioned ingredients and recyclable packaging keep the unboxing tidy.
What could be better
- Vegan only. That's the whole point, but if anyone in the house wants meat or fish, Grubby won't be your one-stop box.
- Gluten-free. Grubby lists some recipes as "can be made gluten-free" — meaning you'd adapt them — but doesn't sell them as certified gluten-free meals. So we don't mark any Grubby recipe as GF on our menu pages. If you're coeliac, check each recipe's allergen info on Grubby's own site before ordering.

What other reviewers say

Trustpilot ≈ 4.7/5 from ~1,951 reviews (indicative — see the live score)
Grubby is the UK's only 100% plant-based recipe kit with both B Corp certification and independent ownership — a combination that distinguishes it from Mindful Chef (Nestlé-owned) and Green Chef (HelloFresh-owned). Its 4.7/5 Trustpilot score from nearly 2,000 reviews is the second-highest in this review set, behind only Riverford.
Reviewers praise
- UK's only 100% plant-based recipe kit with B Corp certification — independently owned and values-led, with 90% recyclable/compostable packaging and electric delivery in London.
- High food quality — independent reviewers in 2026 describe meals as 'chef-quality' with restaurant-standard seasoning; 40+ rotating weekly dishes including brand collaborations (THIS, Mildred's, BOSH!).
- 20–30 minute cook times; ingredients stay fresh through the week; each serving contains minimum 24g protein.
Common gripes
- Premium pricing — £5.75–£7.25 per portion (plus £4.99 delivery unless on Grubby Plus annual plan); more expensive than omnivorous alternatives.
- Weekday delivery only (Monday–Friday) with no weekend option; no single-person box available.
- Does not cover Northern Ireland, Isle of Wight, or Channel Islands; niche 100% plant-based positioning excludes meat-eaters entirely.
